A new exploratory pilot study published in BMC Women’s Health investigated cervicovaginal zinc and copper levels across different vaginitis phenotypes. The findings suggest that trace-metal profiles vary with vaginal health and infection type, with the highest zinc and copper concentrations observed in fungal vaginitis. The study also provides a hypothesis-generating rationale for further clinical research into zinc-containing vaginal hydrogels as an adjunct to standard antifungal therapy.
